“This Movement is Not an Emotion, Not a Concern, Not Just a Worry.
It is a Cause,
We have a Reason,
And We Are Not Alone” — Ed Mun
Thirty years back when Interior Designer Ed Mun started his professional design journey in Malaysia, he followed his passion to create, design, and inspire others.
Ed Mun started his independent design firm Space Utilization Analyst S.U.A in 1989 and under his leadership created many wonderful projects both commercial and residential.
Recognized internationally for his hands-on approach in design, it was his philosophy “An Object Must Be Useful Before Becoming Beautiful” that has won him many International Awards.
But little did he know then that the sector that he was venturing into is amongst one of the most unorganized sectors in the world.
But after recognizing and facing many of these loopholes in the industry, unlike others, he decided to speak.
“I am not a person who is comfortable sweeping issues under the carpet. I believe in talking about it and most importantly solving it,” says Ed Mun.
His candid conversations on many issues about the design industry distinguishes him from the rest who silently accept their circumstances.
Ed Mun’s campaign #nofreedesignmovement is focussing on one of the many major issues that the industry is facing today.
For ages, designers are getting exploited by offering free designs or losing on their fair fees if the client decides not to pay.
This has to End.
